Looking at it now, it's a bit off from the timeline I prefer to use, but I did only have 15 minutes.

Length: 425 words

She was thirteen the day her life ended.

It was supposed to be a field trip. Something of a treat for the magic-using students, a chance to tour the deeper parts of the lab, not just the examination room where they all went for checkups and tests. Celes was sick that day and couldn't come and Terra had felt awful about her friend missing out, and a bit uncomfortable on her own account, because they were the two oldest; all the others were a year behind them, a blonde, blue-eyed, pale mass with no use for their peculiar elder and little fondness for Celes, either, though she at least looked like them.

She'd been looking forward to this for weeks. She kind of felt guilty about getting to enjoy it when Celes didn't, but at the same time she didn't want the trip to be ruined, Celes always chided her for moping, so she was determined to pay close attention so she could tell Celes about it afterwards.

When she got into the lab itself she started feeling very strange.

All her senses were heightened, and there was prickling under her skin. When she looked down she saw that the light-green hair on her arms was standing on end. No one else looked unsettled. A few of the others in the class looked bored, one or two at the front of the group, near Dr. Cid, were animated, interested, but no one else was covered in gooseflesh, no one else was looking around for the source of the faint whispers.

It sounded like crowds of people, talking quietly in another room. She thought she heard the word "daughter." She thought she heard that several times. There was a bluish light, it was very strange, and she didn't feel well at all. Her head hurt and the voices were getting louder, and it was no good, she had to tell Dr. Cid and get some air or something, and then she realized the light was coming from her, and so was the screaming. And then she realized there were other people screaming too.

Two attendants were burned, one severely, and six students were injured in the explosion and resulting chaos. Witnesses reported that lightning surrounded Terra Branford and she changed shape; the pink-furred creature with claws and sharp fangs matched the description they provided of her transformation.

She was confined to her quarters for three years, and afterwards released only when her behavior was suppressed by the slave crown General Kefka Palazzo developed for her.
