Maria had plotted her own abduction, relishing the planned scandal; Celes and the others had created a very different one for her. Celes wasn't the type to revel in such things, something of a relief to Setzer. Life in her orbit was eventful enough.
He hadn’t anticipated that, while Celes might not seek out chances to scandalize the conventional, she had no fear of their opinions. At a masquerade ball, she sought him out - they'd both worn simple domino masks - and nearly scandalized him.
"We could be recognized!" he hissed. "These masks--"
"Plausible deniability," she said, smiling.
