Sometimes Chris feels she's not alone.
It's not that she can hear anything; not a voice, no one breathing, nothing of that sort. It's not the unpleasant sensation of eyes on her back, of realizing she's been taken by surprise. She just feels as though someone else is in the room with her. Yun, her father, or sometimes both.
She wishes she knew more about the rune. Her father's legacy was never fully explained to her, not in the way she wished; she feels certain she learned something at the time she claimed it, but the flood of knowledge was incoherent, rushed, too sudden to be fully processed, and she remembers it like a dream lost on waking. She's certain she knows more than she knows, but she's not certain what's lost, what's hidden, what she ought to ask.
She thought of returning to Alma Kinan, asking Yumi and Yuiri if they could tell her more, but the opportunity never came up and she wasn't sure if she could justify making the time. She may yet make the journey; Salome suggested it, unasked and unprompted, and she suspects he'd like to know more as well. Possibly almost as much as she would, if he suggested she leave them again.
For now, she watches the lake and wonders if she should feel some special connection to the water, and smiles to herself because she knows Yun can see it too.
