FFVI - Locke and Terra
Aug. 30th, 2010 07:02 pmTitle: New Experiences
Fandom: Final Fantasy VI
Characters: Terra and Locke
Length: 354 words
Not exactly romance but definitely fluff. Set before they get to Figaro.
****
Locke felt like he was doing something wrong. Terra wasn't exactly a blank slate - she could ride a chocobo, defend herself, she'd built a campfire with stunning efficiency the previous night when they'd had to stay in the woods - and she certainly wasn't a helpless infant, but now that they'd found a roadside inn he was discovering she was apparently ignorant of some basic social details, like the right way to hold a knife and fork. She'd gone for fists clenched around the handles, like a child only with better motor control, until he'd corrected her, but that had reminded him that he really didn't know the refined way to cut your meat. Not that it had ever mattered to him, but it might be good to make sure she learned better habits.
Still, it was kind of nice - everything was new to her and she liked almost all of it. Even rain. At first he'd thought she didn't know you were supposed to come in out of it, but no, she just liked it. She'd liked the lightning, too, though thunder had taken her some getting used to. She didn't like coffee, but that was one negative against a crazy-long list of positives. She liked tea, and she liked rendering her tea almost sludgy with sugar. She liked playing with mashed potatoes, and then later, when he gently pointed out they were food, she'd liked eating them too. She liked clouds a lot. Her chocobo, which she'd spontaneously opted to name Birch because that was a tree she liked the looks of.
And he liked watching her delight at every new thing that came her way, so he waved the waitress over and ordered dessert. When it was delivered, she'd tentatively reached for her fork, and at his nodded encouragement, took a bite. Her eyes widened in astonishment, then closed in apparent bliss as she chewed and swallowed.
"What is that?" she asked, in tones of absolute wonderment.
"Chocolate cake." He couldn't help grinning.
"Can I have more when I'm done with this?"
"You don't think that'll be enough?"
"No."
