The memories come back, in bits and pieces, sparked by innocuous sights or words. When she sits at the piano bench at Setzer's rebuilt home in Jidoor, she touches a few keys idly, only to find herself playing a melody she doesn't recognize, though clearly her hands know it. When Celes comes to visit her in Mobliz and borrows the kitchen to bake a spice cake, she's surprised that Celes bakes - but the scent puts her back the kitchen of Cid's quarters near the lab. She'd read from the cookbook while Celes cracked eggs and measured flour.
"I remember," she says, and Celes smiles gratefully.
The sight of a caged canary in a store window in Nikeah stops her in her tracks, leaves her shivering with her arms wrapped around herself, until Locke puts his jacket around her shoulders and leads her away. Later, she finds that she'd started crying. Every time she'd seen Kefka's quarters, he'd had a new birdcage; sometimes, they even held birds.
